Ethereum Just Stole Bitcoin’s Spotlight—and It’s Only Getting Started
Why Ethereum Is Gaining Ground Over Bitcoin With Big Investors
After years of playing second fiddle to Bitcoin, Ethereum is finally having its moment. The second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap is outpacing Bitcoin in investor interest, institutional inflows, and performance—and analysts say the best is yet to come.
Thanks to massive inflows into Ethereum-based ETFs, growing corporate treasury demand, and strong price momentum, Ethereum is starting to look like the crypto with the most upside in 2025.
Ethereum ETFs Are Booming Like Never Before
According to LMAX Group strategist Joel Kruger, Ethereum’s current performance is strong both tactically and structurally. Inflows into Ethereum ETFs during July hit an all-time high of $4.7 billion—doubling their total inflows since launch just one year ago.
While total Ethereum ETF assets under management still sit at $21 billion, just 13% of Bitcoin’s ETF size, the pace of growth is staggering.
“Firms building ETH-based balance sheets have emerged as meaningful marginal buyers,” Kruger said, noting that ETF demand is no longer the only growth engine for ETH.
ETH Dominates Recent Crypto ETF Inflows
In just the last week, $1.9 billion flowed into crypto ETFs—84% of that went into Ether. That level of demand suggests a clear shift in institutional interest toward Ethereum.
Why? Ethereum is no longer seen as just an altcoin. It’s increasingly viewed as a core digital asset with long-term use cases, from decentralized finance to tokenized real-world assets.
Ethereum’s Price Is Soaring, Outpacing Bitcoin
Over the past 30 days, Ethereum is up 55%, trading around $3,790. Compare that to Bitcoin, which has struggled to maintain momentum as its market dominance dips to 59%.
Ethereum’s rally has flipped the narrative: While Bitcoin had its moment with spot ETF approvals and corporate treasury buys earlier this year, Ethereum now leads the bull run.
“It’s Ethereum’s turn to see record highs,” said Satraj Bambra, CEO of crypto platform Rails. He predicts ETH could hit $7,000 to $8,000 in the coming months.
Ethereum Is Becoming the New Corporate Favorite
The so-called “Michael Saylor effect”—named after the MicroStrategy founder who aggressively bought Bitcoin for his company’s balance sheet—is now spreading to Ethereum.
Firms like Sharplink Gaming and BitMine are building ETH-focused treasury strategies, acting as persistent long-term buyers.
Today, public companies hold 2.6 million ETH, which is 2.1% of total Ethereum supply. If this trend continues, ETH could become the preferred digital treasury asset for corporate America.
Coinbase Report Confirms Institutional Shift to Ethereum
Coinbase’s first-ever Institutional Crypto Market Positioning report shows that Ethereum is attracting growing interest from hedge funds, asset managers, and other large investors.
The report found:
-
Rising open interest in ETH futures
-
Net accumulation by short-term holders
-
Improved liquidity just above current ETH price levels
All these indicators point to strong investor confidence in Ethereum’s price trajectory and utility.
Long-Term Outlook: Could Public Companies Hold 10% of All ETH?
Geoffrey Kendrick, head of digital assets at Standard Chartered, sees Ethereum’s institutional potential soaring. He forecasts that public companies could eventually hold 10% of all ETH in circulation.
That level of corporate adoption would be a game-changer—driving demand to unprecedented levels and potentially pushing ETH above $4,000 by year-end.
“Ethereum is not just a tech play—it’s becoming a financial asset for corporate strategy,” Kendrick said.
Is Ethereum the New Crypto King?
Bitcoin may still hold the throne in terms of recognition and market cap, but Ethereum is quietly overtaking it in critical ways:
-
Faster ETF growth
-
Stronger institutional adoption
-
More real-world utility
-
Larger upside potential
As more investors, funds, and companies look for the next big crypto asset, Ethereum is emerging as the clear front-runner.
If current trends hold, 2025 might just be the Year of Ethereum.
